Here is a paper that talks about quantum gravity modifications to the Heisenburg uncertainty principle. It’s neat b/c it allows for a minimization of the measured length to be quantified and sets up a situation where someone with enough time, money, or graduate students could conceivably test the hypothesis and put upper bounds on Quantum Gravity.

It is natural to ask what happens to space as we wind it up in the ergosphere, seeing as spacetime is smooth at the level of GR.
At the quantum level, it is postulated that spacetime comprises of a “foam” that flows smoothly around itself, unwinding the frame dragging effects as spacetime moves away from the black hole.

Scientific Torture

When torturing scientists it is better to use chess and unsolvable problems then waterboarding and finger smashing.

During WWII, the US government understood the need to get German scientists and engineers before anyone else did, so we could use their tech and knowledge to advance our own. Maybe I’m being old and bitter, but it seems like nowdays no such thing would happen. I would be easier to capture, and torture them for some knowledge, then shoot ‘em.

A Diesel Cure

I just came across this article in Wired, detailing how a newly discovered rainforest fungus creates a diesel like fuel.

The fungus, Gliocladium roseum is detailed in the Journal Microbiology.

IF this plant can be harvested and grown commercially, it may help alleviate the oil situation. With the advent of solar power, and this plant providing oil for plastics manufacture, we could reduce our dependence on foreign oil greatly.
